Michael "Mike" Carter Obituary

Michael E. “Mike” Carter, 63, of Crooksville, passed away on December 29, 2023, at Genesis Healthcare Systems, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born on December 5, 1960, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Mike's journey began as the son of the late George and Lillian "Lillie" Carter. His warmth, kindness, and passion for life left a permanent mark on everyone he met. Mike's life was a testament to his strength and character. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of patriotism and duty. Following his service, Mike found his calling as a mechanic, a trade that allowed him to apply his technical skills and attention to detail. He spent his last years of employment with Nationwide Express, approving permits, a job he thoroughly enjoyed until his health no longer permitted him to work. The racetrack was Mike's second home. As a race car driver, he skillfully maneuvered the #4 car, taking on the dirt tracks at Muskingum County and R and R Raceway. His love for speed and competition was paralleled by his intricate hobby of building model cars. Over the years, Mike competed at the Muskingum County Fair, where he earned over 20 1st place ribbons. His impressive collection of over 1000 models and ribbons were a source of pride, all meticulously displayed in his basement, which he transformed into a miniature world of his own creation. Family was the cornerstone of Mike's life. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: his devoted wife, Tammy (Booher) Carter; his children, Tina (Mike Bulley) Carter, Marlee (Anthony) Carter, Michael (Jazzmin) Carter, and Ashley (Noah) Carter. Mike's legacy will live on in the hearts of his siblings, George Carter, Dave Carter, and Marie Bowers, who will cherish the memories they created together. His love for his 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren knew no bounds. His role as a grandfather was one, he embraced fully, each moment spent with his grandchildren better than the last. Also left to mourn his passing were special friends, Michael Griffith and Susie Bucy, Rick (Jeri) Sherfy, Jeremy Churchill and an additional list of friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy Carter. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2023, from 4pm- 7pm at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street, Crooksville, where friends are welcome to pay their respects and offer support to the Carter family. A dignified cremation will take place following calling hours. You may sign the register book at
