Mary A. Tolliver, 94, of Crooksville, passed away peacefully, Sunday January 9, 2022, at Highland Oaks Health Center, McConnelsville surrounded by her family. She was born on June 4, 1927, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to the late Gilbert and Alice (Hale) Crabtree. Mary was Valedictorian of her class at York High School 1945-46 and later went on to become owner and operator of Tolliver’s Grocery with her husband, Jim, whom she married on October 8, 1949. She was a woman of faith, belonging to the Maple Ave. Christian Church in Crooksville and loved attending worship services with her daughter at the Grace Community Nazarene Church in New Lexington. Mary loved her family and considered her grandchildren and great grandchildren the light of her life. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, an excellent baker and one of the best pie makers around. Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Carol (Harry) Arnold of Chillicothe, Alice (Bryan) Pontious of Crooksville; son, Bob (Linda) Tolliver; grandchildren, Mary Ellen (Deric) Cox, Melissa (Jamie) Carsey, Allison Arnold, David (Sarah) Pontious, Adam (Kristen) Pontious, Kaitlin (Ricky) Lewis and Lindsey Tolliver; great grandchildren, Carolane, Andrew, Mica and Eli Cox, Hadlee Carsey, Laynee Carsey , Mark Yanko, Hannah, Joshua, Benjamin and Luke Pontious, Evan, Carson, Gabriella and Maverick Lewis. Preceding her in death were her husband, James L. Tolliver; son, James “Ronnie” Tolliver; brothers, Donald, Frank, Arthur, George and Lawrence Crabtree; sisters, Ruth Paivio and Shirley Savage. Calling hours with be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 2pm to 7pm at Maple Ave. Christian Church, 245 Burley Street, Crooksville, where funeral services will take place Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 11:00am with Pastor Conard Wolfe officiating.
