Gloria Shipley Obituary

Gloria Jean Shipley, 89, of Roseville, affectionately known to family and friends as Jeannie, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the Helen Purcell Home in Zanesville, Ohio, the very same town where she was born on March 16, 1936, to the late Clarence and Thelma (King) Browning. She grew up in a loving family alongside her siblings, Larry Browning, Carolyn Browning Allen, Linda Quinn, and her late brothers, Wayne and Merle Browning and sister, Waveline Kusmits. Jeannie’s formative years were filled with the warmth of family and the value of education, which she carried with her throughout her life. After graduating from Roseville High School, she furthered her education at Ohio University Zanesville, setting the stage for her future endeavors. As a proud and devoted mother, Jeannie’s favorite role in life was caring for her family. She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Leigh Ann) Shipley of Rome, Georgia, and Joel Shipley of Toledo, Ohio. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brian Shipley, Kurt Shipley, and Kayla Turner, as well as her great-grandchildren, Ava Shipley, Sydney Shipley, Avery Edward Shipley, Bryce Turner, and Karmyn Keyse as well as her best friend, Martha Kimpel Hunt, Jeannie’s  professional life was marked by her passion for education and her love for children. She was a member of the Ryhmes to Rhythm Child Conservation League and in 1973 served as a teacher’s aide for both the Roseville Primary and Roseville Elementary Schools for Title One Reading. She worked for many years as a librarian at the Muskingum County Library System's Roseville Branch. Her gentle demeanor and encouraging words left a lasting impression on the young minds she was privileged to serve. A devout Christian, Jeannie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Roseville, where she served on various boards and committees. Jeannie’s commitment to her faith was evident in her every action, and she was truly one of God's servants, living her beliefs through service to her church and community. In addition to her religious devotion, Jeannie was a past member of the Roseville Mother's Club and Roseville Garden Club. Her interests also included gardening, which brought her immense joy and a sense of peace. Jeannie’s garden was a symbol of her nurturing nature, flourishing under her attentive care.  She loved to travel extensively alongside her husband Gene throughout the United States and favored Maine as it is  such a beautiful area. Perhaps one of Jeannie’s most endearing qualities was her love for reading, which she eagerly shared with the children around her. She believed in the power of stories to inspire and educate, and she took every opportunity to foster a love for literature in others. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Eugene Shipley who passed away March 30, 2023; her parents; sister, Waveline Kusmits and brothers Wayne Browning and Merle Browning. Calling hours will be held Friday December 19, 2025, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 146 N. Main Street, Roseville where funeral services will begin at 1:00pm with Pastor Orlen Bates officiating.
