Edward Thomas Obituary

Edward G. Thomas, 76, of Crooksville, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 21, 1947, in Zanesville to the late James and Marvene (Ross) Thomas. Ed worked as a police officer for several years, serving the communities of West Jefferson and Somerset. He was also a member of the Crooksville Auxiliary and served as a deputy for the Perry County Sheriffs Department. Ed retired from the Southeastern Ohio Correctional Institute where he earned the name “Ticket Thomas.” He proudly served our nation as a member of the United States Air Force. In his spare time, you could find him watching NASCAR as he was an avid fan of the sport or sitting in the stands on Friday nights cheering on the Crooksville Ceramics football team. When Ed was a younger troubadour, he loved riding and showing horses, especially his stallion, Kings Makabuck. He won numerous awards in the American Buckskin Horse Association with his faithful four-legged companion. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 43 years, Linda (Dusenberry) Thomas of the home; sons, Eddie (Myleen) Thomas of Florida, Shawn Cooper of Lima, Douglas (Violet) Followell of West Virginia, Angela Bateson (Mark Smith) Johnson of Roseville and his baby girl, Michelle (Jason) Daugherty of Crooksville; grandchildren, Mallarie (Pete) Peterson, Kiera (Micholas Parker) Thomas of Florida, Ashley (Jeremiah) Lacy of Newark, Dakota Daugherty and Darian (Josee Wood) Daugherty of Crooksville; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Randa (Wayne) Groves of Somerset, Betty (Richard) Clark of Newark and lots of nieces and nephews that he loved all in his own way. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a baby brother, Ricky Thomas, older brother, James Quinn; sisters, Annetta (Bishop) Green, Tracy Sullivan, and baby sister, Wilda Thomas; nephews, Michael Bishop, and Jamie Dunwoody. The Thomas family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Genesis Hospice and Genesis Roseville Pharmacy for their endless care and support through this rough time, as well as a special thank you to family, friends, and neighbors. No calling hours or services will be observed at this time, and the Thomas family has chosen to host a Celebration of Life at a date yet to be determined.
