Charles (Gene) Lanning, 91, of Deavertown, passed away December 21, 2015 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House, Zanesville. He was born May 21, 1924 in Rose Farm to the late Samuel and Freda Strohl Lanning. Gene served our country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked at Ohio Ferro Alloy and was a farmer. Gene was highly active in his community and was a member of several clubs and organizations such as, Deavertown United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 24 of McConnelsville, VFW Post 9090 of Crooksville and Roseville, Golden Eagle of the Eagles of McConnelsville, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, Doric Lodge 172 F & AM Deavertown Past Master. He was an Honorary Member Peerless Lodge Crooksville, Valley Lodge 145 of Malta, Clemity Amity at Reinersville. Gene was also a 4-H advisor for the P & M Rough Riders. He is survived by his two children, Brenda (Jim) Hamilton and Randy (Pam) Lanning of Deavertown; Grandchildren, Todd (Bonnie) Young, Troy (Jessica) Young, Michelle Snouffer, Scott Lanning, Matthew (Angela) Lanning, Gina (Chris Drayer) Barron; Great Grandchildren, Zac, Rebecca, Lucas, Patrick, Luella, Rosalee, Paige, Josh, Katelyn, Travis, Kyle; Great-Great Granddaughter, Riley; 6 Step Grandchildren; 16 Step Great Grandchildren; 4 step Great-Great Grandchildren. Special caregiver and friends Melissa and Aaron .Gene was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; Daughter Sandy Lanning, Brother, Bobby Joe Lanning; Sisters, Colleen Williamson and Eileen Irmscher. Calling hours will be held from 4 pm to 8pm Wednesday December 23, 2015 at Ross-Frash Funeral Home 207 Burley Street Crooksville. Masonic services will be held at 8 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday December 24 at 11 am with Rev. George Hughes and Pastor John Sellers officiating. Burial will follow in Deavertown United Methodist Church Cemetery.
