Obituary

Joann Thompson, 83, of Crooksville (Rose Farm), passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at New Lexington Care & Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family. On January 2, 1941, she was born into the loving family of Elvie and Louella (Stevens) Allen in Corning, Ohio. The matriarch of a close-knit family, Joann's legacy is carried on by her beloved children, Amy J. (Dave) Binkley and Larry G. Thompson. Her love and lessons live on through her grandchildren, Jade, Baylee, Tyler, and Tabetha Thompson, Jessica Young, Peyton Sevcik, and Jordyn Binkley, as well as her numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Joann's family was the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled in them values of love, kindness, and resilience. She grew up alongside her siblings Peggy Factor, Donna Sue Jadwin, Nancy Channel, Mary Lou Baker, and Bernard Allen, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She  also leaves behind a special daughter-in-law, Jody Thompson. For 25 years, Joann was a familiar face at Sprankle's Village Pizza in Crooksville, where she was renowned for making the best pizza in town. Her dedication to her work was matched only by the love she had for her community and the people she served. Beyond her work, Joann had a zest for life that was contagious. She was an avid bingo player, a hobby that brought her much joy and excitement. Her competitive spirit and laughter will be remembered as creating memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Joann also had a nurturing soul, having cared for numerous children throughout her life. Her caring nature made her a second mother to many, and she provided a safe and loving environment for all the children she looked after. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jerry Thompson, and her son, Gary L. "Mudcat" Thompson, who both held special places in her heart, by her brothers, Tom, and Jack Allen, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms on the other side. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 19, 2024, from 11:00am- 1:30pm at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street, Crooksville, where services will begin at 1:30 pm with Pastor Carolyn Hoskinson officiating.
