Jerry P. Rider, 85, of Zanesville, formerly of Roseville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 surrounded by his wife and family. He fought a courageous battle of cancer for the last 9 years. He was born in Roseville on February 24, 1931 to the late Guy and Mabel Price Rider. Jerry was a graduate of Roseville High School where he played football and basketball for the Rams. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Roseville. Jerry served as a Corporal Army Medic during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Mock Woodworking as a finish carpenter for over 30 years. In retirement he loved spending time with his grandchildren, always going to all of their sporting events. Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, May Pettit Rider; two daughters, Polly Harris and Julie Rider; four grandchildren, Brandon (Misty) Harris, Megan (Brent) Coffey, Adam Alderman and Ajay Alderman; and four great grandchildren, Addison and Anna Harris, Emerson and Grayson Coffey. He leaves behind his loving sisters, Ella Virta, Jean Abel ; and brother Bill (Mary) Rider. As well as many in-laws and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jim (Inez) Rider; brother-in-laws, Kay Virta and Bob Abel and his beloved dog, Angie. Friends may call Sunday November 27 from 2 - 4 and 6 to 8pm at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 33 Main Street, Roseville. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday November 28, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Pastor John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Roseville American Legion Post 71 conducting full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Churcg or Genesis Hospice Care in Jerry's memory.
