William "Bill" J. Murray

William J. “Bill” Murray, 83, of Crooksville, passed away at 1:47 pm, Saturday October 21, 2017 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born November 19, 1933 in Rose Farm, to the late Archibald and Buela Davison Murray. Bill was a 1952 York High School graduate and lived in Perry County all of his life becoming very active in the community, playing Santa Claus for many years for family and friends, along with being one of the original founding members of the Crooksville-Roseville VFW Post 9090. He was a life member there, serving as Quarter Master 1986-87 and Jr. Vice Commander 1997-98. Bill, along with each of his brothers, proudly served his country through the United State Navy during the Korean War and was stationed on the U.S.S. Baltimore CA 68. He loved fishing, cooking, golfing and especially he and Connie’s river cabin. They took great pride in hosting the largest river party on the 4th of July every year. Bill was a member of the Rose Farm Church of Christ and held employment with Rockwell International, where he retired in July of 1990 as a supervisor after 31 years of service. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Connie Thomas Murray; son, Stewart James (Marilyn) Murray of Deavertown; daughters, Renee Ann Murray and Sherry Diana Murray (King) both of Crooksville; his grandchildren whom he adored, Keeley King (Joey) Brown, William Nicholas “Billy” (Angel) Murray, Brooke (Troy) Parker and Blake Murray; much loved great grandchildren, Eastan, Westan, Hustan and Bostan Brown, Charlotte “Charlie” Shafer, Abigail “Abbie”, and Holland "Hollie" Murray, Lily Garey, Elizabeth Kern and Carleigh Parker; a sister, Janice (Ronald) Stoneburner of Deavertown. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gale, Donnie, Archie and Jim Murray; and sisters, Marcella Sidwell and Maxine Stutes. Friends and family may call Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street Crooksville, where funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday October 25, 2017 with Pastor Peggy Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Iliff Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Crooksville Rosville VFW Post 9090 in conjunction with the United States Navy.
